Financial FAQ
What does the Bible say about giving?
- Giving the first of our income is an act of worship that honors God (Proverbs 3:9).
- Sharing and sacrificial giving is pleasing to God (Hebrews 13:16).
- Taking up a weekly collection to support ministry has always been part of church worship gatherings (1 Corinthians 16:1-2).
- Our hearts and our finances are closely related. Giving towards God’s kingdom draws our hearts toward God’s kingdom (Matthew 6:19-21).
- We shouldn’t give under compulsion. God loves a cheerful giver (2 Corinthians 9:6-7).
- It is more blessed to give than to receive (Acts 20:35 ).
Why don’t we “pass the plate” for giving?
We believe the best way to facilitate joyful giving (2 Corinthians 9:7, Matthew 6:3-4) is not to prompt it with a specific moment in the service, but to provide our body with opportunities to give as the Lord leads. Anyone can give online, send checks by mail, place gifts in the secure giving boxes as they enter the worship service, or drop off gifts in person at our offices.
What is the most helpful way to give?
Recurring donations (i.e., automatic monthly payments) help us plan better and steward our resources more effectively. You can set this up on our website at cbcpa.org/give or by instructing your bank to mail automatic payments to CBC on a regularly scheduled basis.
We accept many forms of payment, including ACH, Debit Cards, Credit Cards, Cash, and Checks. More information can be found at cbcpa.org/give. If you have questions or desire to donate in a way not listed, please contact the Finance group by calling the church 717-426-1345 or by emailing financedepartment@cbcpa.org.

Are there fees if I give online?
There are no automatic fees for giving online. You will have the option to increase your gift to pay for the processing fee, but that is your decision.
How do I change or cancel my recurring online gift?
Log into your Realm account to make the change. If you need assistance, contact the Finance department by calling the church 717-426-1345 or by emailing financedepartment@cbcpa.org.
How do we prepare for the unexpected?
We see wisdom in maintaining some reserves for the unknown. In accordance with the direction of our Elder Board, we set aside funds to cover one month of operating expenses, along with a reserve account to fund repairs and maintenance for our facilities.
How can I review the annual budget?
If you are a member of Community Bible Church, you can request a copy of the previous year’s annual financial report or the current year’s budget presentation. These are made available at the annual meeting each year or you can request a copy by emailing financedepartment@cbcpa.org. We also provide monthly financial updates which are presented in our services, printed in the program, and sent by email.
How is the budget created, approved, and managed?
Ministering staff build their budgets from the ground up every year, evaluating the needs of each ministry. Budgets are then reviewed by our finance team and our Elder Board, which approves the budget for member vote each year.
How is our budget used?
A portion of our budget goes toward fixed expenses which includes compensation and benefits for pastoral and support staff, evangelism and outreach, and facilities. We also invest in direct ministry expenses which includes children, youth and adult ministries, congregational care, worship ministries, and our Community Care Center.
